Do you need to speak Spanish to travel to Cuba?

Basically, a few words of Spanish won’t do you any harm. In touristic places such as Havana, Varadero or Trinidad, many hotel staff, cab drivers and young people speak English. In other areas and in casas particulares run by private individuals, however, it can be a little difficult to speak English. However, Cubans are usually very helpful and if necessary you can communicate using sign language. For a trip to Cuba, we recommend bringing a dictionary (or DeepL or Google Translate app if you have internet access).
