What is the MLC and how do you need it for a trip to Cuba?

The MLC is the “electronic dollar” (Moneda libremente convertible). It is linked to the USD and, according to the official exchange offices, is equivalent to around 120 CUP. The locals use it to pay in the so-called “MLC/dollar stores”. These are stores selling imported products. As a tourist, you can pay in these stores with a credit card. When paying, you often have to show your passport (a photo of your passport should work). Cash is not accepted in these stores.
